Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked in the Child Protective Services field. There I found that individuals and families need support and understanding in order to make real change. This drove me to go on and receive my graduate degree in counseling and for the past ten years have been working in the field of trauma and addictions. I am passionate about helping people navigate life while healing. I want to help people bring a healthy understanding to their past and present lives to empower change for their future.
I have spent the majority of my professional career working with folks that others seemed to have given up on. In my years working with addictions, trauma, and the criminal justice system I have found that when a person feels safe and heard then recovery can occur. Many times people feel like “something’s wrong” with them, or that their life seems unmanageable. This shame and embarrassment can keep people from reaching out for help. I want folks to know that they don’t need to feel shame or judgment in seeking help. You are not alone, and finding someone who understands and accepts you is key to healing.
I believe in the importance of reducing stigma and understanding where behaviors come from. Change comes from understanding ourselves. Hurt people can get stuck in avoidant behaviors, such as using drugs or alcohol, anger and unhealthy relationships. Getting life back on track is complex, and no single approach is right for everyone. I have many tools to address addictions, PTSD, sexual trauma, anxiety and depression. Some of these tools include clinical hypnosis, EMDR, CBT and Emotional Freedom Tapping.
If you or someone you know is struggling with PTSD, sexual trauma, drug use or alcohol addiction, or anger management – call or book online today. They can be stronger, healthier with a bright future.
