My counseling philosophy is simple, “To remain present with every client in every session.” To be true to this philosophy I conduct therapy through a person-centered approach, as an active listener, with empathy, and demonstrate an unconditional positive regard for each client.
I thoroughly enjoy working with adolescents experiencing a variety of issues; anxiety, depression, anger management, trauma, law violations, and oppositional behaviors. Adolescents, by their very nature, can be difficult for adults to understand, and although most adolescents may not want to admit it, they have a difficult time understanding their own thoughts and feelings. They are in a stage of life which is confusing and demanding; too old to be considered a child and too young to be considered an adult. With each passing year, trend, and fad I remain cognizant of the pressures and issues adolescents face.
I also work extensively with children who have experienced trauma in various forms; physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, witnessing domestic violence, Child Protective Service (CPS) placements outside of the home, etc… Various trauma processing therapies are incorporated, as well as a systemic approach to guide the family through change while providing support. I have experience providing services to children and their families for other mental health concerns to include; ADHD, anxiety, anger management, significant behavior problems, and depression.
