I am a PLMHP (supervision by J. Kipp Lanning, LIMHP and Tom Seguin, LIMHP) that started my professional journey off in public schools. I working with children and their families to make sure that mental health doesn’t become a barrier to attendance, education, positive relationships and living a person’s best life! Some of my areas of interest include helping children, adults and families recover from the effects of trauma, anxiety, and depression. Trauma can affect relationships well into the future if not addressed. Trauma can impact quality of life issues such as attachment, relationship stability and self perception. I have a clinical focus to help adults and children process thoughts and feelings related to a traumatic experience (from the past or current), and develop a positive sense of self, support and hope for the future.
Trauma could be physical, emotional or mental. No one is immune to the effects of trauma but some coping skills and types of family support help people be more resilient than others. While anyone can experience a traumatic event – no one has to let it define who they are. Counseling isn’t about complaining or being a victim. Trauma counseling is about learning to live again, without the emotional or thought distortions that trauma can create. It’s about learning how to overcome.
I use a cognitive behavioral and client strengths base approach to therapy. This means I am able to create a treatment plan that is specialized for each unique individual client and family that is researched based, and outcomes focused. Counseling also doesn’t go on forever. Counseling is about getting you back out living your own life. From day one I’m working to setting goals and benchmarks to define successful discharge. My clients and often their families are a participant in that process. I enjoy hearing when clients feel that they have gotten what they need from therapy and are ready to go!
If you, your child, or someone you know is struggling with depression or anxiety and may have a history of trauma – call or book online today. I take Blue Cross Blue Shield and Medicaid as well as private pay. Evening appointments available.
