Recovering Your Life from Eating Disorders

Shelby Henderson, PLMHP
In today’s society we all feel the pressure to conform to a specific mold, especially when it comes to our body. This leads to feelings of inadequacy, constant comparison, depression, and anxious feelings over the shape of our bodies and the number on the scale. Daily life seems to solely center around food and worrying about unscheduled events that can lead to diverting away from your perfectly composed diet. Before you know it, you have isolated yourself to the point that you no longer have strong relationships with people you care about deeply, all because of your constant fear of gaining weight or eating unhealthy while around them. You might want to make a change, but every time you try you revert back to your old ways because that little voice is telling you that you will lose control of everything if you stray away from this plan.
Know that you are not alone in this struggle. Living a life where you are no longer controlled by a scale or anxious during holidays is possible. You have the strength within you to take control, rather than being controlled by your eating disorder voice. The voice in your head might be loud right now, but with great courage and determination you can live life in the present moment with loved ones and not struggle with that internal battle. Being able to enjoy the unexpected and not struggle on a daily basis is something you deserve to have.
As a counselor, I am here to help you get through this battle. Together we will work on greater self-acceptance, positive relationships, a fulfilling life, and the best version of yourself. I help you discover the thoughts, emotions, and actions that create these issues and teach you how to use your own inner strengths, positive thoughts, and relationships with others in order to achieve your goals. Throughout our work together you will have the ability to use the positive, trusting, and supportive relationship we have together in order to make the difficult changes you have been avoiding. I believe through losing your eating disorder that tells you that you will never be good enough, you will gain yourself back and more.
If you are struggling like so many have in the past and are ready to gain back control of your own life call me today at 402-325-0117 x13 to learn more or schedule an appointment, or book an appointment online!
