    Leslie Walker, LIMHP

    Leslie Walker, LIMHP

Leslie Walker is a counselor in Lincoln, NE that works with a wide variety of concerns and populations including children, teens, adults, individuals and families. Leslie has a particular clinical interest in eating disorders and body image, adolescent and teen issues, LGBTQ issues, behavioral/parenting issues, and individuals with developmental disabilities.

I truly believe in the effectiveness of counseling when the client and counselor can work together to identify concerns and generate effective and realistic solutions. My approach to counseling stems from the belief that you are the expert on your own life and I will work with you to find insight and create meaningful solutions that will impact the quality of your life. My goal is not to judge, but is instead to create a safe space where we can explore areas of difficulty together. Client’s I’ve worked with appreciate my ability recognize the uniqueness of each person’s story and situation and provide an individualized approach to our work together.

I take a special interest in working with clients who struggle with eating disorders, body image, or unhealthy eating patterns. Eating disorders and the associated unhealthy eating patterns are often kept secret by those who are struggling. Over time, this secret builds and slowly consumes the person. Our culture and society have twisted our relationship with food, while skewing our perception of body image, for both men and women. I recognize and understand how difficult seeking help for an eating disorder can be. I strive to provide a safe setting to work towards establishing realistic and healthy eating patterns and body image while gaining insight into the underlying thoughts and emotions that maintain these unhealthy eating patterns. I have a particular interest in working with adolescent athletes who may be struggling with unhealthy expectations related to body image and eating patterns. Growing up as a competitive athlete myself, I experienced firsthand how athletes are often told and taught, from a young age how to manipulate their bodies to perform a certain way. As a result, these young athletes may internalize an unattainable body image and develop unhealthy eating patterns which can last beyond their athletic years.

I also have a passion for working with individuals with developmental disabilities and special needs, specifically those with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. I enjoy working with children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families and caregivers. Caring for a child with a developmental disability, or being a caregiver for an adult, comes with its own set of challenges that often go unrecognized and unsupported. It is my goal to take the time to understand what each family unit needs and work to develop plans and goals to strengthen and support the individual and their caregivers.

I offer evening appointments and currently have immediate openings available. Additionally, I offer online booking for easy and convenient scheduling.
