Carla is a Provisionally Licensed Mental Health Provider in the State of Nebraska (supervised by Nicole Kauk, LIMHP, LPC) and completed her Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling in 2012 at Bellevue University. She has almost a decade of clinical experience across a variety of settings including outpatient clinics, psychiatric and substance abuse treatment, crisis intervention training for law enforcement, and private practice. She is most passionate about working with adult adoptees to address core underlying issues of adoption (e.g. attachment, grief and loss, and identity formation) and has been trained as an adoption-competent mental health clinician. Traumatic life experiences and early losses create elevated risks developmentally, physically, emotionally and behaviorally in adoptees and youth in guardianship or foster care, including a 4 times greater risk in suicide attempts compared to non-adoptees. Carla Hammer is NTI™ trained. NTI™ trains therapists because having an adoption competent therapist is key to developing a therapeutic relationship that allows adoptees to increase well-being and stability.
She also has a broad range of clinical experience working with individuals and groups across the life span in the following areas:
• Anxiety Disorders
• Behavioral and Discipline Challenges
• Self-Harm Behavior
• Trauma and Abuse
• Family and Relationship Issues
• Anger and Stress Management
• Suicide Assessment and Risk Reduction
• Self-Image and Self-Esteem Issues
• Addictive Diseases
Carla utilizes an empathetic and holistic approach while encouraging each client to take an active and engaged approach in their treatment. She is trained in several therapeutic modalities including trauma-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and motivational interviewing. Carla is committed to helping people reach their life goals so that they may live to their potential and enjoy living life along the way.
