I have worked in the mental health field since 2014 where I began working with at-risk children and adolescents in residential and shelter settings. Throughout that time, I developed my passion for working with adolescents that feel like they have been given up on and have no one on their side. I took that passion and earned by Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln in 2018, and am now a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner and Marriage and Family Therapist. During my graduate studies I gained experience working with youth, couples, families, and adults with major mental illness at UNL’s Family and Couple Clinic, as well as the Lincoln Regional Center. I have since spent my professional career working with youth that are part of the Juvenile Justice System in several community-based programs and in-home services.
I strive to assist clients in coping with the stressors of school, work, family, and life in general. I take a systemic approach with families that want help understanding and decreasing issues around their youth engaging in physical/verbal aggression, low self-esteem, emotional dysregulation, and school disruption. Some tools I use in therapy include Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), DBT, and Parent Management Training. I am also working towards certification in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). In this therapy, I teach parents play therapy skills to enhance their parent-child relationships and manage their child’s behaviors with behavioral principles that they can utilize with their children ages 2-7, who may display negative behaviors at home, school, and in the community.
